A Nurse's Guide to CBD, THC & the Perimenopause/Menopause Years
This one is personal. I've lived post-menopause myself, and CBD genuinely changed how I move through my days — so I put the science and the starting numbers in one place.

"Perimenopause hitting you from every direction at once isn't a coincidence, and it isn't you being too sensitive. It's one system, touching everything it normally regulates, running low all at once."
Real numbers, real timelines, and the honest caveats most articles skip.
Your ovaries make anandamide, and it rises and falls with estrogen your whole reproductive life. Estrogen also increases how many cannabinoid receptors you have. When estrogen declines, your natural endocannabinoid tone declines with it — one regulating system running low, touching pain, mood, sleep, temperature and memory together.
A 2026 study compared CBD directly to standard estrogen therapy for memory in a menopause research model. CBD produced comparable memory improvement, by raising natural endocannabinoid levels through a mechanism genuinely similar to estrogen's. It's preclinical — and a Phase 2 human trial is running right now.
Large clinical trials on CBD or THC specifically for hot flashes don't exist yet. The temperature-regulation mechanism is real and plausible, and survey data shows women reporting genuine benefit. I'd rather tell you where the proof stops than sell you certainty I don't have.

Your daily foundation
5–10 mg to start
Work toward 10–25 mg for more noticeable mood and anxiety support. Small amounts earlier in the day can be mildly activating — save the larger doses for evening.
Optional, and small
2.5–5 mg
Paired with equal or greater CBD. Add CBG for joint pain and inflammation, and CBN in the evening if sleep disruption is part of your picture.
With migraines especially, higher doses can trigger or worsen symptoms rather than help. Start lower here than almost anywhere else, and give any new approach 3–4 weeks of consistent use before deciding whether it's working.

This guide was written for you if…
A survey in the journal Menopause found 1 in 4 women had already used cannabis for menopause symptoms — only 19% were using traditional hormone therapy. You're genuinely not alone in this.

This guide is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment from a physician or qualified healthcare provider. Theresa Strahan, RN is not acting as your physician. CBD and THC can interact with hormone therapy, blood thinners, beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers, statins, sedatives, and medications processed through the same liver pathways. Always consult your own provider — ideally your pharmacist, who can check your exact medication list — before starting, stopping, or changing any supplement, CBD, cannabis, or medication.
Instant download. Lifetime access. Give any new approach a genuine 3–4 weeks of consistent use before you decide — this isn't a light switch, and neither were your hormones.
